Testing Our Metal with Sid Meier
Civilization III: Gold Edition was one of the first illustration projects in which John Dismukes partnered with legendary game designer and creator of the Civilization game series, Sid Meier. The partnership was introduced after executives from gaming company Atari, and Meier came across Dismuke’s award-winning artwork for the Unreal game packaging and logo he created in 1998.
Working with Meier and the creative team at Atari, Dismukes produced illustrative packaging for Civilization III: Gold Edition in 2001. For stand-out shelf appeal in the ultra-competitive gaming market, John rendered the package in vivid, metallic hues of gold and purple, with rich, intricate detail.
Following the success of Civilization III, Atari and Meier once again commissioned John to create packaging for their new game, Pirates! in 2004, and, again for Civilization III: Complete Edition.
Throughout their working relationship, John Taylor Dismukes & Associates and Meier have successfully collaborated on many other packaging designs—and we look forward to even more projects in the future.
