Medieval Times promises their guests a journey to a forgotten age of valor and chivalry. In celebration of their 25th anniversary, Capstone Studios was commissioned to create a series of illustrations for the theme restaurant chain, depicting the Knights of the Realm, the Royal Court, and their magnificent Andalusian horses.
Working from reference photographs of the costumes, animals and authentic weaponry used in the tournaments, Capstone produced rough sketches for each design, and made adjustments based on feedback from the client.
Using a mixture of traditional and digital techniques, the artists at Capstone refined each drawing to create a series of detailed illustrations that spark the imagination and capture the excitement of the joust. Rich, intricately detailed borders and backgrounds were also produced to create a library of assets for use in the company’s advertisements, programs and collateral.
In all, twelve finished illustrations, including a 25th anniversay logo and commemorative poster, were created. “I love this kind of work,” says Capstone VP John Dismukes. “We think of ourselves as visual problem-solvers, so it’s rewarding to take on projects that accomplish our clients’ goals while also expressing our own creativity.”
